It's difficult to imagine a better holiday location from which to enjoy all that Nice can offer than the Old Port. And this luxury apartment offers everything that you will need to make your stay in this beautiful city perfect.

The apartment is located in the Residence Neptune - a luxury 'co-propriete' on Quai des Docks. Immediately outside are moored the glamorous cruisers and work-a-day fishing boats that help to give the Old Port its magical charm. Within easy strolling distance are the shopping, night-life and many other attractions of Old Nice and the city. Yet the apartment is protected from the hustle and bustle, looking south over the elegant inner courtyard of the Residence Neptune.

The apartment is fitted to a very high standard and its two double bedrooms sleep four adults comfortably. All linen is supplied, along with modern TV and DVD equipment and always-on high speed internet connection. You can book from Saturday to Saturday or Wednesday-to-Wednesday, or combine start and end days - and we look after all the cleaning at the end of your stay.

Apartment to Neptune Everything you will need, with style The Residence Neptune is located directly on the Quai des Docks, overlooking the beautiful Old Port, with its millionaires' yachts and local fishing boats.

The Residence has been designed to merge in with the traditional Mediterranean-style architecture around it, yet it was built in the 1980s, to the highest building standards and with the latest services and conveniences.

is served by a lift. It is 'traversant' - it faces north-south and allows cooling breezes to reduce inside temperatures as much as possible during hot weather.

To the south it overlooks the bright, spacious and elegant cobbled courtyard of the Residence; to the north a balcony, with early morning and late evening sun, provides a bird's-eye view of Living room the Rue de Lazaret and Mont Boron behind, and, to the west, the Port itself.

The apartment comprises two good-sized bedrooms - one with its own terrace, the other with en-suite toilet and hand basin Both bedrooms have large built-in cupboards and ceiling fans.

Bedroom One includes two zip-and-fit single beds which can be Dining area converted into a king-sized double; Bedroom Two includes two full-sized single beds. Both rooms have plenty of cupboard and storage space.

The bright, airy 'sejour' or lounge includes comfy chairs, a coffee table, occasional tables and CD sound system and DVD player. Cable TV provides a wide range of multi-lingual programmes. There is 'always on' broadband internet access Breakfast bar through a PC computer - use it to plan your day, or leave comments and recommendations for future guests! There is no charge for the use of the internet or computer.

Fan The modern, fully equipped kitchen area includes oven with rotisserie, a large fridge, a basin area and breakfast bar. Beside it is the dining area with elegant table and four dining chairs.

Nice is one of the world's most beautiful cities, settled for three thousand years in the middle of perhaps the most beautiful coastline in the world.

The city is full of history, from the Greeks and Romans through the wars of petty kings and princes to the age of Napoleon and Garibaldi. In more peaceful times Nice has become a bye-word for luxurious living, perhaps achieving its greatest fame during the 'Belle Epoch' when it attracted the rich and famous from around the world - notably the British (who built the Promenade des Anglais) and Russian aristocracy (who built the stunning Russian Orthadox Cathedral) in the 19th century and, in the 20th, wealthy Americans.

Hotel Nice city So it is no surprise that the city has so much to offer the more discerning visitor: world-class opera and music, classical and modern; a rich theatrical culture; museums, including the Musee des Beaux Arts, Musee Matisse and Musee Marc Chagal as well as the city's extraordinary new Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.

Nice city For visitors Nice comprises four main areas: the long sweeping Promenade des Anglais, extending from the city centre almost to the airport in the west, which provides miles of beautiful beaches, and stunning views of the Baie des Anges; the city centre, around the Place Massena, with its high fashion shopping areas second only to Paris itself and its pedestrianised areas thronging with restaurants and street traders and entertainers; the Old Town - Nice city a combination of narrow streets, fine squares, baroque churches, the elegant Cours Saleya, once Nice's principle seafront promenade, and a maze of alleyways and passageways between tall old buildings that give the Old Town a seductive coolness even in the midday sun. And the Port itself, of course.

Festivals There's a steady stream of internationally-known festivals held throughout the year in Nice, including the Jazz Festival in May, the carnival and Festival des Fleurs held around Shrove Tuesday, Nice city after which Rio de Janeiro's Mardi Gras festival was modelled, the international tennis tournament in April, the Festival of the Gourds in April, the May Festival - not to mention the Formula One Grande Prix in neighbouring Monaco, and the Cannes Film Festival, both usually in May or June.

The perfect location to make the most of Nice

A location It's difficult to imagine a better holiday location from which to enjoy all that Nice can offer than the Old Port.

The Port itself is one of Nice's attractions. Although Greeks and Romans put in at Nice thousands of years ago, it was only in 1740 that the Duke of Savoy, A location Charles-Emmanuel III, excavated the current Port. Further beautified in the 19th century when the Place de Ile de Beaute was built on the north quay, the Old Port is a delightful area with shops and restaurants, mostly with a distinctly nautical flavour, surrounding the 'basin'.

Outsite front door High above the Port to the west is the 'Chateau' - the rock on which stood the supposedly impregnable city fortress; today there is little left of the old castle, but the rock is now a delightful ornamental garden with shaded walks, a waterfall, and numerous belvederes offering magnificent views over the Port to the east and the Baie des Anges to the west.


Club Nautique Sea bathing is available just five minutes walk away at the tiny, concealed 'Plage du Club Nautique'; beyond that, innumerable private rocky hideaways for the swimmer and sun-seeker. Le Plongoir, just beyond the Plage du Club Nautique, is the smallest, cheapest yet surely the best private beach in Nice: spend the day here for just Euros 9. For those looking for more energetic diversions the Port offers a range of activities including scuba diving and sailing schools, and fishing trips. You can book boat trips from a number of places on the Port: take a trip in a glass-bottomed boat to view the fascinating sealife.

In the evening the centre of Nice itself is just a short (and safe) stroll away along the beautiful newly-built walkway around the Chateau.

pizzerias In between are many of the best-value eateries in Nice, most with a distinctly fishy flavour. Prices are competitive, the ambiance is unique in Nice and, unlike in the centre of the City, you can enjoy your meal free from intrusive street traders or musicians.

The Port even has a its own nightclub scene, with at least two clubs open long into the early hours.

Nice, Cannes, Monte Carlo, St Tropez, Frejust, Menton, Antibe, Juan les Pin, Vence, Grasse... Nice is only one, if perhaps the finest, of the resorts of the Cote d'Azur.

Regions
To the east along the stunning coastline, past some of the most luxurious villas on the Cote d'Azur, lie Villefranche, Eze, Roquebrune, Monte Carlo and the Principality of Monaco, Menton and, beyond, Italy - all within an hour's easy drive. The three world-famous corniches - the Grand, Middle and Lower Corniches - with their seemingly endless series of breathtaking vistas, leave Nice just yards from the apartment. Umbrellas

To the west, beyond Nice's busy international airport, lie Cannes, St Tropez and Le Canet, Antibes, Digne du Mer, Juan les Pin, Golfe Juan, St Raphael and Frejust - again all within an hour's steady drive. Here you can enjoy the long, sandy beaches, watch the glamorous beachlife, explore the beautiful coves and harbours and experience the romance of the world-famous French Riviera.

Regions To the north: the Alps and year-round skiing. In the winter months some of the best pistes are as little as 90 minutes away by car. All year round the magnificent Gorges de Loup and de Saorge, Mont Vial and the Alpine foothills offer breathtaking natural beauty. And betweeen the mountains and the sea, innumerable picturesque towns and villages beckon: Grasse, Vence, Levens, Coaraze, Tourettes-sur-Loup, St-Cazaire, Pegomas, Fayence... Regions Vence

How to get to Residence Neptune

Nice has never been easier, quicker or cheaper to get to. And once here you'll find that virtually everything in the city is walkable. If not, you can make the most of the city's excellent public transport.

Nice International Airport is the second busiest in France and is served by most of the major low-cost airlines including Easyjet and Antaire. Flight time from Gatwick, for example, is around 80 minutes and fares can be extremely low.

The airport is located at the western end of the Baie des Anges, about 10 kilometers from the centre of Nice. There are two regular bus services to the bus terminal at the centre of the city and from there there is a wide selection of routes to the Old Port. The trip to the bus station (fare: Euro1.30) takes you along the Promenade des Anglais, then along the central 'Espace Massena' to the main bus station. From there buses leave for the Port very frequently. Once arrioved at the Port it is an easy walk of 200 metres to the Residence Neptune.

Ariel view Of course there are taxis at the airport too. Fill one with people and luggage and you'll pay around Euro25 for the trip, which will probably take you via the rather-less picturesque autoroute around the north of the city.

Nice's bus service - the so-called Sunbus - is an ideal way to get around Nice. A week's season ticket costs just Euro10. There are also excellent scheduled coach services from the SunBus station at Espace Massena which can take you to Cannes, Monte Carlo, Grasse and all points east, west and north. And the ferry to Corsica, Marseilles and Pisa in Italy leaves from the quay just round the corner from the Residence Neptune!

Coach map Think twice about taking a car to Nice, or hiring one when you are there! Take a look at the parking 'system' and notice the body-work damage that most of the cars in the city seem to have suffered. Use your own feet and the bus service to explore the city itself. For further afield use the coach network or hire a scooter for the day.

You can book the apartment either from Saturday 5pm to Saturday 10am (Sat-Sat) or from Wednesday 5pm to Wednesday 10am (Wed-Wed). The mid-week option means you can take advantage of lower-cost mid-week airfares from EasyJet, flying to Nice from Liverpool, Stanstead, Luton, Bristol and Gatwick. When booking, please ensure you are not overlapping with any 'Not available' periods. You can extend your stay by booking the Sat-Sat and overlapping Wed-Wed slots in which case we would offer a pro-rata discount for the 'overlapped' days.
